Evidence and witness statements indicate that the Kia driver was traveling above the 35 mph speed limit, although law enforcement confirmed through the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit that the driver was not impaired at the time of the crash.
The crash left both vehicles disabled, and investigators continue to focus on the Kia’s failure to stop for the red traffic signal and its speed as primary factors. The Tucson Police Department has indicated that the investigation remains ongoing, pending confirmation of the traffic light sequence and any other contributing factors.
